Overview

The Big Tek was my first-ever solo professional project, developed for a printing and packaging service company. The website was built using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, with a strong emphasis on user-friendly design and a fully functional backend dashboard for lead management.

Unlike conventional e-commerce platforms, The Big Tek used a custom "Get a Quote" feature instead of an "Add to Cart" system. This allowed customers to directly submit project specifications for personalized pricing, which better suited the company’s custom manufacturing and service model.

The platform featured:

  • A clean, modern UI/UX for smooth navigation.
  • A responsive backend dashboard enabling non-technical staff to track and manage client requests.
  • Streamlined communication between clients and the service team, enhancing efficiency.


Challenges

This project presented several unique challenges that required innovative solutions and careful planning to overcome. Here's a detailed breakdown of the key challenges and how they were addressed.

Custom Quote System:

Challenge:

Implementing a quote-based workflow in place of a typical e-commerce shopping cart.
Solution:

Developed a custom request form integrated with the backend dashboard, allowing the admin team to track, respond, and manage quote requests in real-time.

Dashboard Management:

Challenge:

Creating an admin interface accessible to non-technical staff for handling customer requests.
Solution:

Built a responsive, role-based dashboard with easy navigation, data sorting, and real-time status updates, ensuring operational efficiency.

User Engagement:

Challenge:

Ensuring a quick and straightforward quote request process to encourage lead submissions.
Solution:

Designed a minimal-step form with clear instructions, optimizing usability and boosting conversion rates.

Results/Conclusion:

The Big Tek website streamlined the client inquiry process, replacing lengthy e-commerce flows with an efficient, personalized quote system. This not only increased lead generation but also improved operational workflow by centralizing requests in a single dashboard.

From a professional growth perspective, the project marked a major milestone in my development career—it was my first complete delivery of a fully functional web platform from UI design to backend integration. Although the company later closed and the website went offline, the project remains a valuable achievement in my portfolio.
